Wrong Cable = Burnt Motor. How to Select the Right Wire Size?

Scenario: Raju is confused. He bought a brand new KSB 5HP Motor from Sagar Traders, but the starter box keeps tripping. He blames the motor. Engineer Rao visits the site and points to the real problem: The Wire.

👨🏽🌾 Raju (Customer): "Rao Garu! This motor is defective! It runs for 10 minutes and then the starter trips. I spent ₹25,000 on this! Why is it happening?"

👷🏽♂️ Engineer Rao (Expert): "Raju, the motor is fine. The problem is you used your old PVC wire for a depth of 400 feet.

Think of electricity like water. The wire is the pipe. If you try to push a river through a straw, the straw will burst. Your thin wire is 'choking' the voltage. By the time 220V travels down 400 feet, it drops to 160V. That low voltage is heating up your motor."

The Golden Rule: Distance Matters!

Many electricians only look at the Motor HP. But Engineer Rao says you must look at the Depth (Length of Cable).

⚠️ Warning: Never join two different sizes of wire inside the borewell (e.g., joining 4mm with 2.5mm). The joint will heat up, melt the tape, and cause a short circuit underwater.

"Raju, saving ₹2,000 on local PVC wire today will cost you ₹8,000 in motor repairs next month. PVC melts at 70°C when the motor gets hot.
